Mindfulness

Simon Centofanti is a great advocate and practitioner of mindfulness. This page is provides an introduction into Mindfulness, with some free to try mindfulness practices from the Mindfulness for Beginners online course.

What is mindfulness?

This very simple, but surprisingly difficult to master act, is just being completely in tune with yourself and / or your environment in the present moment. The ability to acknowledge, but not get caught up in, thoughts or mental processes that may be going on at that time.

Some misconstrue it as meditation; however, meditation should be considered a form of mindfulness and not mindfulness itself.

Mindfulness can be practiced whilst cooking, eating, running, swimming or listening, just as a few examples. It does not have to be passive. It is far more accessible than people may think.

What benefits come from practicing mindfulness?

There has been extensive scientific research into the effects of mindfulness and a variety of different continuous studies have found that practicing mindfulness has positive effects on:

- Decreasing depression

- Decreasing anxiety

- Decreasing perceived stress

- Decreasing rumination (invasive thoughts)

- Decreasing fatigue

- Improving sleep quality

- Managing chronic pain

- Improving immune system strength and response

and much more...
